A medium-sized, smooth-skinned dragon with a somewhat flattened body. The males are grey green with blackish areas along the sides of the body; yellow to orange-red colour patches around the ears and back of the head; and blue, orange or yellow on the throat. Females and juveniles generally brownish with dull black side stripes and blackish and whitish speckling, but females can sometimes have the face and throat washed with lemon yellow. Head-and-body length to about 8 cm.A common species in rocky habitats. Males are territorial and often perch prominently on rocky ‘lookouts’ to scan the area for rivals. Males expend considerable energy in establishing and keeping their territories, but females and juveniles are more cautious and often choose lower vantage points.
